Nu har vi varit ute på praktiken i 3 veckor och från vad jag har hört från de andra och av mina egna upplevelser så är detta något som alla har sett fram emot och att alla trivs med att äntligen få komma ut i verksamheten och få använda våra kunskaper.

Jag och Erik hamnade i ett utvecklingsprojekt kallat Atlas vars främsta uppgift är att hantera kontrollerna av de ansökningarna som blir uttagna till kontroller. Vi har hamnat i var sitt hörn där utvecklarna sitter i Atlas vilket har gjort att även om vi hjälper varandra så har vi även haft lätt för att bara snurra på stolen och fråga personen närmast för att få hjälp också. Jag trivs bra i Atlas och det känns som att det är ett bra arbetstempo där de på ett bra sätt lyckats kombinera både effektivitet och tempo.

Nu de sista dagarna har jag suttit med att försöka ordna upp ett filter som filtrerade på helt fel saker som skickades med i bakgrunden. Idag lyckades jag äntligen lösa det med hjälp från resten av teamet, och känslan när man löser ett problem är såå skön. Här på bilden under så håller alla tester som finns i projektet på att köras för att se så att inget test har fallerat på grund av den nya koden vilket kan ta lite tid ibland.

En annan roligt sak som är på ingång just nu är ju självaste julen vilket jag känner inte hade kunnat börjat på ett bättre sätt än att vara med i Atlas och få ladda upp inför julen med alla awsome medarbetare runt Atlas. Det har varit allt från teambildning med enbart Atlas till en julfest som hela verket hade möjlighet att gå på, till att ha ett julbord som bara var för IT-avdelningen. Helt klart är att jag nu börjat inse varför det blir sån träningsheats under Januari.

In September this year, I got the unique opportunity to work as Scania’s International Stand Manager at the 66^th IAA for Commercial Vehicles, which was held in Hanover, Germany.

In short, a stand manager is responsible for the stand operation throughout the exhibition. He or she has to initiate or arrange any support needed to make sure things run smoothly and has the authority to take decisions, for instance regarding staffing.

As the international stand manager, I was responsible for approximately 40 international staff members each day, that came from Sweden, Brazil and Russia and manned the stand. Every morning and evening, when the exhibition closed, I sat down with the German stand manager and discussed which issues we would bring up at the next morning meeting. We, first, held a morning meeting for the German and the international staff members together. The German stand manager held the meeting in German, while I summarized his speech in English. This also meant that I sometimes had to translate “on the spot” or that I quickly had to summarize speeches of the German management team. During these meetings, I always presented three experts from my international team to the German staff members in order to enhance the cooperation between the German and the international team.

I, then, held a separate morning meeting for my international staff, in which I checked attendance and informed the staff members about expected visitors and VIP guests on that day. Additionally, I told them, if we were expecting bigger customer groups and colleagues from Scania’s distributors to visit our stand. As the main contact person for the international staff, I was responsible for giving my staff the support they needed in order to perform their work tasks. This implied, for example, to ensure that every staff member had a work outfit, nametag, pin, locker, etc. but also making sure that the staff members felt comfortable and took enough breaks to eat and drink.

After the international morning meeting, I stopped by Scania’s information desk, to inform the hostesses about which international staff members were manning the stand that day. Besides being responsible for the international staff, I was in charge of our international conference rooms. Hence, I met with the catering manager every morning to discuss the conference room bookings. Furthermore, I checked regularly that the Scania stand was in a representative condition, which means that I ensured that the stand was tidy, that we never ran out of marketing material, and that all the technical equipment functioned properly.

The Scania stand was comprised, among others, of a VIP Lounge and a Driver’s Bar. As the stand manager, I had the authority to decide who was allowed to enter the VIP lounge and I had to watch out that the VIP lounge was never overcrowded. Scania distributors from all over the world travelled to the IAA. Many of them came with bigger customer groups. For some of these groups, I had to make special arrangements on the stand. I closed off a section of the Driver’s Bar, for instance, and checked that security staff was in place and that the catering was informed about the visit of bigger customer groups.

I spent most of the remaining time behind the reception desk, where I welcomed Scania employees from all over the world that visited the exhibition and assisted them, for example, with storing their luggage in our luggage room or finding a place to work. Furthermore, I accompanied guests to the conference rooms, when they had meetings with Scania employees and ensured that guests that had a meeting with the management team were taken care of. Moreover, I was the main contact person for all international and German customers and suppliers that were looking for Scania representatives from certain markets or that wanted to get in touch with our technical experts when they had specific questions concerning our products. I also gathered all contact requests from different suppliers and forwarded their brochures and business cards to the Purchasing department in Södertälje. Another work task was to take care of VIP guests at our stand and to arrange private guided tours of our stand with my staff members.

The work load at the IAA was very high, and I worked approximately 11 to 12 hours a day. The first three days were especially tough until everything fell into place. During these days, my phone rang constantly while three people around me wanted my attention simultaneously. It is difficult to prepare for the role as the stand manager, since the main task is simply to “function”, to be extremely flexible, highly service-minded, and to find the best solution possible under time pressure, so that our guests have the best experience at the Scania stand and receive the support they need. Luckily, I was supported by two coordinators, who assisted me at the reception desk and helped me in all staff-related issues.

Since we had just launched a completely new truck generation, our stand was very popular and totally overcrowded during the weekend.

We were all very proud to present our new truck range at the IAA and an absolute highlight was that Scania won the International Truck of the Year award, which was handed out during the press day of the IAA.

Another personal highlight for me as a true Scania fan was that I spotted the legendary Svempa at our stand, who designs and builds unique Scania concept trucks, among others the Red Pearl and the Chimera, which I saw at the International ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix at the Nürburgring during my third trainee placement at Scania Deutschland GmbH. Of course, I did not miss the chance to ask him if I could take a picture with him.

After having worked five days in the row, the new international stand manager from Sweden arrived, who took over for the remaining five exhibition days. Due to the long working hours and the fact that I was standing or running around most of the time, I was quite exhausted and glad when the new stand manager arrived. However, working as the international stand manager was definitely a great opportunity and learning experience. It was fun to get to know so many Scania employees and to have close contact with our customers and suppliers. I enjoyed the collaboration with Scania Germany at our stand and I can definitely imagine myself working as Scania’s international stand manager again at the next IAA.

Hope you’ve followe d and enjoyed our first five Fujitsu posts (one from each of our five trainees in Sweden)! In this post I’ll update on the great Lean Foundations course I recently attended at our Gothenburg offices.

Fujitsu’s Japanese roots are visible in many of our ways of working and this is especially true when it comes to the use of Lean management. For this reason, a three-day introductory course is available for employees of Fujitsu who are interested in working with Lean in their teams. The course was a fantastic mix of activities, lectures and games and was attended by both Fujitsu colleagues and Master students from Chalmers University.

The introductory course covered key areas of Lean such as; Visual Steering, Waste, Standard Work, 5S – Workplace Organization and much more. The content was really valuable for me in my role and I’m glad I’ve been able to take advantage of th

Idag har jag suttit i olika möten under princip hela dagen. Och det är måndag. Det känns. Är helt slut i huvudet nu, haha! Men jag tror ändå att jag blivit lite klokare än vad jag var i början av dagen (förhoppningsvis). Dagen inleddes starkt med att jag och en annan ny medarbetare (ny på projektering, inte JM) fick en introduktion på hur det går till att arbeta med projektutformning här. Det var lärorikt och känner att jag gick därifrån med lite färre frågetecken än innan. Men oj vad väldigt många olika moment, handlingar, dokument och processer som ingår i ens roll att vara projekteringsledare. Huvudet bara snurrar! Men det ska nog bli klarare med tiden, jag håller mig positiv 😉

Efter det mötet var det dags att gå igenom hur försäljningen av bostäderna på två av projekten jag är involverad går. Jag kommer att haka på och jobba på en visning för våra VIP-kunder, det ska bli kul att få se hur det går till! Sen följdes det mötet av en projektavstämning med en av projektledarna för att följa upp vad jag sysslar med nu och kolla av vad jag kan göra mer alternativt mindre av. Och efter det hade jag ett annat möte med en annan projektledare där vi följde upp en uppgift jag har hjälpt henne med. Det jag hjälpt till med är att samla in information kopplat till kvalité och miljö på ett färdigt projekt. Utöver mina möten har jag suttit i telefon med leverantörer och arbetsledare för att samordna inglasningar av balkonger till ett av projekten.

Summa summarum: Mycket social dag och en Alexandra med bomull i huvudet. Känner att jag behöver öva upp det här med att ha många bollar i luften samtidigt.

Att åka bygghiss är roligare än vad man kan tro.

Under vår “byggturné” när vi med bestämde steg skulle besöka det första av sex byggarbetsplatser.

Tiden går fort när man har roligt brukar man säga och jag kan intyga att det stämmer! Jag har redan arbetat 3 månader här på Fambo i Göteborg. Förra veckan var lite extra speciell, hur ska man få tag i boende, när det är bostadsbrist och många års kötid krävs? När man inte har planerat att flytta till en stad är det svårt att ställa sig i en bostadskö, och för få kontakter i Göteborg har bidragit till att det känns omöjligt. Efter 130 dagar på boplats lyckas jag med det omöjliga, ett första handskontrakt. I februari går äntligen flyttlasset till Vasastan, en otroligt lättnad att veta att jag har någonstans att bo framöver. Veckan avslutades sedan på topp, då det blev julfest med jobbet. Efter lunch bestod dagen av föreläsningar och övningar som sedan avslutades med julbord. Det var mitt första för i år och julkänslorna börjar komma, om några veckor åker jag mot Eskilstuna för att fira jul. Innan dess ska jag hinna jobba några veckor till och berätta i korta drag om ett av mina projekt som pågår.

Jag har i uppdrag att renovera två lokaler som varit avställda i ungefär 15 år. Så det första steget i projektet var att se till att hyresgästerna har bildat en förening, så det är säkerställt att de kommer vara aktiva. Steg två var sedan att kontakta en brandingenjör för att uppdatera det befintliga brandskyddet. Vi gick tillsammans igenom lokalerna där jag sedan fick en rapport om exempelvis antal personer som får vistas i lokalen, vilken typ av utrustning som krävs samt utrymningsvägar.

Steg tre var ett möte med entreprenören där jag visade vad som ska göras i vilka rum och entreprenören kom även med förslag på lösningar. Jag kom fram till samtliga åtgärder som behövs för att öppna upp lokalen igen. Här kommer verkligen all byggteknisk kunskap till användning, dessa dagar uppskattar man kursen byggteknik lite extra mycket. Det ställs krav på olika materialval, vilket gäller att hålla koll på. En enkel sak som att man inte kan byta till vilket golv som helst. Eftersom det är renovering av golv mot mark behövs en Platonmatta innan linoleummatta för att få ett hållbart fuktskydd.

Steg fyra var att lägga en beställning och renoveringen är just nu i fullgång. Leveransen av säkerhetsdörrarna är lång och beräknas komma i slutet av januari. Förra veckan hade jag ett möte med föreningen där jag berättade vilka åtgärder som kommer göras samt hur lokalen kommer att bli. På grund av krav på utrymningsvägar och säkerhet har väggar uppförts vilket medför att utrymmet som får användas har blivit mindre. Föreningen har ett otroligt engagemang och genom att lyssna på varandra får vi ett bra samarbete. Ser fram emot att avsluta projektet i februari med en invigning av lokalen samtidigt som det första gårdsmötet i föreningen äger rum!

In my last three blog posts, I focused very much on describing my work tasks and experiences during my first three trainee placements. The trainee program ended a few weeks ago and although I was very excited and eager to start my first “real” job at Scania, I was definitely a little nervous and also sad that the exciting, fun, and challenging time as a trainee was coming to an end. I am definitely going to miss all the adventures that we trainees experienced together.

In January this year, a few trainee colleagues and I had the chance to attend the “Transportforum” in Linköping. “Transportforum” is Scandinavia’s largest annual conference for people working in the transport sector. It is a platform used by researchers and actors within the transport sector to establish contacts and to share knowledge. It was very interesting to learn more about future transport solutions and to get to know the other actors operating within the transport sector.

In April, we trainees hired a few Scania trucks and drove to Malmö to visit one of our trainee colleagues who spent her second trainee placement at the Scania dealer there. Since I spent the second trainee placement at the Scania dealer in Gothenburg, it was interesting to observe differences and similarities between the two dealers. In the evening, we went out for dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant, located directly at the water in the newly built residential area “Västra hamnen”.

In one of my blog entries, I mentioned that we always have a seminar week between the trainee placements. We trainees are responsible for organizing these seminar weeks and for planning the lectures, seminars, and study visits. During the second seminar week, we went to Oskarshamn, where the production facilities for Scania’s truck cabs is located. There are five different workshops: the press shop, the bodyworks workshop, the base-painting workshop, the paint shop, and the assembly workshop. Scania has recently completed its largest single industrial investment in two decades in Oskarshamn and built the world’s most modern cab factory, which is manned by 283 new, high-tech robots. Having worked at Scania’s assembly lines in Södertälje, seeing this futuristic cab production almost felt surreal, like a scene from a Science Fiction movie.

One week before the start of our placement abroad, we got the opportunity to attend an one-week EF language course in Cambridge. Since I love to travel but have never been in England before, I spent the weekend before the start of the language course in London for some sightseeing.

During the week in Cambridge, we stayed at host families and had private and group lectures during the day. The language school also organized fun activities, such as a sightseeing tour in Cambridge, a punting tour on the river Cam, or a trip to London to see a musical.

In October, the “Traineedagen” took place at the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre. Many large companies, that offer a trainee program in Sweden, took part in this exhibition and students had the opportunity to find out more about the different trainee programs. One of my trainee colleagues and I manned the Scania stand together with trainees from the past years, our trainee coordinators and recruiters. It was very nice to meet the students and easy for me to relate to their situation, since I have been in their shoes two years ago. I had some very interesting conversations with the students and I am very much looking forward to maybe welcoming some of them as our new trainees at Scania next year.

Nu är utbildningsperioden avslutat och har nu påbörjat praktikperioden. Under utbildningsperioden har vi gått igenom en del kursen, bla. inom drift och infrastruktur, Java och testdriven utveckling, Webutveckling (Servlets, JSF, JSP, Angular) och metodik inom agil utveckling. Förutom de mer tekniska kurserna så har vi gått igenom en hel del verksamhetskunskap. Jordbruksverket har en ganska stort ansvarsområde och tillhandahåller en mängd tjänster och system till allmänheten. Som utvecklare är det ju bra att ha kunna programmera men verksamhetskunskap kan vara minst lika viktigt. På jordbruksverket jobbar man dessutom domändrivet vilket innebär att koden är baserad på verksamhetsbegrepp för att underlätta kommunikation vilket gör det tvunget (och lättare) att förstå om man förstår verksamheten. Man har ganska direkt under praktiken insett att man har mycket nytta av att känna till verksamheten och verksamhetsbegrepp.

Praktikperioden innebär att vi har blivit utplacerade i lite olika team här på Jordbruksverket och kommer att vara i varje team i ca 1 månad. Teamen vi kommer att jobba i är förvaltningsteam, nyutveckling och integrationsteamet här på JV. Utbildningsperioden har givit en grund att stå på men under praktikperioden kommer man nog mer komma i arbete, vilket känns väldigt spännande. Jag kommer att börja i Jorden som är ett relativt stort team, som är uppdelat i 2 utvecklingsteam. Jag och Andreas blev först placerade i ett varsitt utvecklingsteam, men vi har istället börjat arbeta tillsammans med en avgränsad del och gör det lite parallellt med de andra teamen. Modulen vi skall bygga ska avsätta en viss procent av stödet som lantbrukare till en särskild fond. Kanske inte låter så komplicerat… det är väl bara att dra procenten på summan? Nja, riktigt så enkelt är det inte, utan det beror på ett antal olika saker och summan vi vill åt är lite flytande. Dessutom skall denna modul kunna kopplas på ett befintligt flöde i den arkitektur som finns. Ett väldigt intressant problem och jag hoppas verkligen att vi hinner i mål med det innan vi ska vidare till nästa praktikplats.

I moved to Koblenz, Germany, in the end of April 2016 for my third trainee placement, which I spent at the department “Strategy, Communication & Marketing” at Scania Deutschland GmbH.

Germany is my home country, but I have never worked in Germany before. Thus, I was very excited to see what working for Scania would be like in Germany. Scania has an extremely Swedish organizational culture (for more information see my second blog entry: How to choose the right company) and although the organizational culture at Scania Germany is “Scania-like”, the differences between the two business cultures is still noticeable. My trainee placement in Germany was very structured and organized. Everything – from chair to computer – was ready to use upon my arrival. Furthermore, Scania Germany has very clear hierarchies and the language in meetings is more direct than in Sweden. The work tasks were quite varied reaching from administrative tasks to demanding projects, hence, I always had something to work on.

I spent a lot of time on proof-reading all kinds of marketing material, such as brochures and press releases and even got to write the press release for the International ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix – a huge trucker festival taking place at famous Nürburgring – on my own. I also assisted the team “Business Intelligence & Sales Processes” with evaluating and summarizing the results of a questionnaire filled in by the Scania dealers in Germany.

However, the most interesting and valuable experience for me was being involved in the IAA project. The IAA is the world’s largest exhibition for commercial vehicles in Hanover, Germany, and takes place every second year. I assisted the project manager in planning the set-up of the marketing material as well as proof reading it. In addition, I coordinated a video shoot for a customer testimonial for the IAA. Being involved in the IAA project was a great preparation for my role as a stand manager at the IAA this year. Besides, the department “Strategy, Communication & Marketing” closely cooperates with my home department, “Marketing Communications” in Sweden. Hence, it was very interesting for me to work with my home department from a distributor perspective.

My third trainee placement also involved some travelling: I attended an IAA meeting in Sweden and visited the IFAT in Munich, which is the world’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management.

I travelled to Frankfurt, to take part in the VDA International Press Workshop, where I met the top managers of the automotive industry, among others Andreas Renschler (Volkswagen AG, Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH) and Henrik Henriksson, the CEO of Scania. Moreover, I attended an award ceremony in Stuttgart, which was held by ETM, a publisher house, where Scania won a prize in the tipper category.

A very interesting event to attend was the International ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix, which takes place at the Nürburgring in Germany every year.

All in all, my trainee placement in Germany has been very valuable and I have learned a lot at Scania Germany in general and at the department “Strategy, Communication & Marketing” in particular. From day one, I felt like being part of the team and I can definitely imagine myself going back to Scania Germany for some time in the future.

Hi everyone, Camilla Wigren here, the fifth and final Graduate at Fujitsu Sweden! All the graduates are, as you might have read, placed in different business areas within Fujitsu. I am placed in the best business area, product sales! From the first day everyone welcomed me with open arms and my colleagues were happy to show me around and help me with whatever I had a problem with and answer whatever questions I had (and still have). So far the last couple of weeks have passed super quickly and I have had the opportunity to follow really exciting business opportunities, sales meetings as well as going to different locations promoting the company, which makes me think of how much I have learned during these different processes, and the graduate programme has only just started!

But now, on to what I actually meant to write about in this post (If you have any questions regarding my position as a Graduate, feel free to comment), the event me and my team went to last week at Kolmården! This event was held by Ingram which is a distributor that we work closely with. Fujitsu was one of the main sponsors which meant that we had a booth where we displayed our products and had the opportunity to talk to almost 300 representatives from different resellers. The theme of the event was Green IT, which was very suitable for Fujitsu, since this is a big part of our philosophy. Furthermore there were lots of seminars that touched upon the subject of sustainability. During the day I really got to test my skills regarding what I have learned so far about Fujitsu as a company as well as how the products are made and how we differ from our competitors. It was a lot of fun, and challenging, to talk to all the different resellers and hear their views on what Green IT is and their opinions on Fujitsu.

After the intensive day we got to enjoy a great dinner where I had the opportunity to meet even more interesting people and network some more. The day after was a bit more relaxed and ended with a panel discussion which my manager participated in, as well as other representatives from other vendors. Very interesting!

I hope this gave you a glimpse of what life can be like as a sales associate in the graduate programme!

Förra veckan hade vi traineer teorivecka 1 vilket innebar att vi alla samlades på huvudkontoret här i Stockholm för utbildning. Så himla roligt att ha fått träffa alla igen och att ha fått delta i väldigt givande föreläsningar och reflektioner av olika slag! Att få byta erfarenheter om det som varit och umgås fyllde verkligen upp mina energidepåer, häftig känsla.

Förutom tid för reflektion om det som varit har vi även fått lära oss om ekonomisystem och om aktivt lyssnande. För att kunna coacha sina medarbetare måste man nämligen lyssna på ett mer koncentrerat och medvetet sätt än vad man vanligtvis gör. Detta fick vi öva genom att både coacha varandra och genomföra olika samtal med skådespelare som iscensatte verkliga (och i vissa fall konfliktfulla) situationer. De här samtalen med skådespelarna var en väldigt speciell upplevelse. Ungefär 20 sekunder in i samtalet kändes det helt äkta och oj vad svårt det var! Att kunna prata om svåra saker med kollegor och faktiskt avsluta samtalet med att ha kommit fram till det man var ute efter från början var svårare än vad jag trodde.

Vi fick även in lite roligheter på kvällarna. På tisdagen var vi på AW med de traineer från 2015 som är placerade i Stockholm nu. Väldigt trevligt! På torsdagen drog vår årgång och spelade lasertag som avslutades med middag. Det visade sig att några i gruppen är riktiga prickskyttar. Och trots att jag lyckades skjuta färre än vad jag blev skjuten, rekommenderar jag det starkt! Sjukt rolig gruppaktivitet!

Idag har jag haft min första dag inne på projektering på huvudkontoret. Så nu är jag helt ny på jobbet, igen. Känns lite motigt att återigen vara mer allmänt förvirrad än vanligt gällande det mesta, men det ger nog sig så småningom. Blev fint bemött med en liten krukväxt och trevliga kollegor, så det känns bra! Det här med att inte behöva gå upp kl. 05.00 som jag behövde göra när jag jobbade på bygget är ju också helt underbart. Kvällsmänniskan inom mig hurrar!

Dagen drog i alla fall igång direkt med ett möte inför försäljningsstarten till ett av projekten jag är kopplad till. Och imorgon ska jag börja dagen med att dra till bygget i Åkersberga för att titta på lite inglasning av balkonger för att sen avsluta dagen på kontoret i Solna.

Nu ropar soffan på mig, ha det så fint så hörs vi nästa vecka!
