GÄSTBLOGGARE SEBASTIAN BOND “På plats i Europas hjärta!”

Eastern European roadtrip

Comments Off on Eastern European roadtrip

So, another exciting week has passed and which included lots of travelling and 7 countries to visit to be precise and where I could add a few countries I visited for the first time, including Bulgaria, Estonia and Lithuania. It was amazing to meet all the staff and management in the different countries we have offices in, and since we’re among the market leaders and growing fast  in this area, it was of course a energetic atmosphere to come to!

One of the differences from our Nordic operations is that we also broadcast news in several countries in Eastern Europe, so it was really interesting to see how a news station works. In Tallin, the biggest scope of the day included a story where dogs in Tallinn mysteriously were poisoned by someone putting out small capsules on the street! Terrible of course but I couldn’t help smiling about the whole news department’s excitment about this, “And we have a dog owner coming into the studio, god job!” There, I also got to act as a stand in host, and if I only had known Estonian, it would probably even have been possible to get on air since everything you say is written on the screen in front of the camera!

Acting as an estonian news reader

My first meeting with a real wheather man!

On Friday I was also participating in X games, a large gaming fair, and although computer games not really are my strongest side, I did the best I could, promoting our new computer game site called Viagame, a project run by a previous trainee. Participating in those extra projects, as the trainees often do, gives you a much better overview of the organization and everything we do, plus that its great fun of course, learned a lot from talking to 10 year old gamers!

Next week, me and some trainee colleuages will be standing at Handels Göteborgs’ career fair Gadden, so if you’re nearby, pass by and say hi to us!

Until next time, have a great week and thanks for reading!

The kick off as MTG Trainee

Comments Off on The kick off as MTG Trainee

First of all, it feels great that Modern Times Group now is able to be part of this blog. I hope that my posts will give you an insight to what it is like to be a trainee at MTG but also, an insight to what it’s like to work in the exciting broadcasting and TV industry in general.

So who am I? I have a bacheolor in Finance which I did both in Gothenburg and Montreal, and just recenty I’ve graduated from Copenhagen Business School, where I gained a MSc in Management of Innovation and Business Development, CBS also took me to France for an exchange. So, quite an international background that made MTG the perfect match as being a broadcaster in 36 different countries. Being trainee for our CEO, Jörgen Madsen, will most likely prove to be an exciting year that I’m looking forward to share with you!

And who are MTG? Most of you, probably know that we are an entertainment broadcasting company, in Sweden mostly known for TV3, TV6, TV8, TV10, and our Viasat channels. Perhaps some of you also watch movies and series, or follow Champions League on our web based platform, Viaplay. I also got a chance to sneak in to our radio channels the other day, a department where the energy was pumping!

To tell you a bit about our trainee program; it’s special in that sense that all trainees get assigned to one of our Management Executives. It could mean working for our CFO, or HR manager, or perhaps be more involved in the technical part of our operations. We also have a trainee working at Strix, our own production company, which means directly working with productions and content.  No matter which position you chose, it gives you a unique, direct insight to the highest levels of the company, which is quite valuable!

My first weeks as a trainee have been hectic and sometimes challenging but most of all extremely varying and fun! A few of the projects I have been involved in so far have been to prepare board material for our strategy days and looking at product pricing structures. Last week I was also participating in a meeting at our office in London where we scheduled the program content for the spring. And yes, that involved a serious business meeting discussing Swedish Hollywood wives!

We have also had one of our trainee session which meant two intense days at our office in Riga. It was great fun to get to know the other trainees and share our experiences so far. This training session focused on presentation skills and how to motivate your employees. It also involved a case competition in teams where we presented our solutions the morning after. Plus a traditional Latvian dinner involving folk dance! Until next time, have a great weekend!

All the best, Jessica
