First of all, it feels great that Modern Times Group now is able to be part of this blog. I hope that my posts will give you an insight to what it is like to be a trainee at MTG but also, an insight to what it’s like to work in the exciting broadcasting and TV industry in general.

So who am I? I have a bacheolor in Finance which I did both in Gothenburg and Montreal, and just recenty I’ve graduated from Copenhagen Business School, where I gained a MSc in Management of Innovation and Business Development, CBS also took me to France for an exchange. So, quite an international background that made MTG the perfect match as being a broadcaster in 36 different countries. Being trainee for our CEO, Jörgen Madsen, will most likely prove to be an exciting year that I’m looking forward to share with you!

And who are MTG? Most of you, probably know that we are an entertainment broadcasting company, in Sweden mostly known for TV3, TV6, TV8, TV10, and our Viasat channels. Perhaps some of you also watch movies and series, or follow Champions League on our web based platform, Viaplay. I also got a chance to sneak in to our radio channels the other day, a department where the energy was pumping!

To tell you a bit about our trainee program; it’s special in that sense that all trainees get assigned to one of our Management Executives. It could mean working for our CFO, or HR manager, or perhaps be more involved in the technical part of our operations. We also have a trainee working at Strix, our own production company, which means directly working with productions and content.  No matter which position you chose, it gives you a unique, direct insight to the highest levels of the company, which is quite valuable!

My first weeks as a trainee have been hectic and sometimes challenging but most of all extremely varying and fun! A few of the projects I have been involved in so far have been to prepare board material for our strategy days and looking at product pricing structures. Last week I was also participating in a meeting at our office in London where we scheduled the program content for the spring. And yes, that involved a serious business meeting discussing Swedish Hollywood wives!

We have also had one of our trainee session which meant two intense days at our office in Riga. It was great fun to get to know the other trainees and share our experiences so far. This training session focused on presentation skills and how to motivate your employees. It also involved a case competition in teams where we presented our solutions the morning after. Plus a traditional Latvian dinner involving folk dance! Until next time, have a great weekend!

All the best, Jessica
